JUNE 2007

Every Tuesday evening, 6-8 pm, in June is the Delaware County HumZinger Alpaca/Llama 4-H Club meeting.  Meetings are held on the farm (The Shepherd's Oak Studio 10410 E. Gregory Rd. Albany).  We will be working towards our 4-H Performance show in July at the Delaware County Fair.

JUNE 15, 2007 - Friday

Alpaca Knit Hat Workshop
5 to 8 pm
$40 per person
Yarn to make hat & snacks included

This three hour FIBER SERIES workshop is a fun evening of fellowship and learning a new craft.  Knitting on a loom is great for young & old(er).  Alpaca yarn is provided to make your very own alpaca hat.  By the end of the class you will be taking home an alpaca hat of your own making.  No knitting experience needed.  It is never too early to think about keeping your head warm this winter.  You will be sorry if you miss this one.

Beginning Spinning

This mini workshop in our FIBER SERIES is a beginners class in the art of taking raw fiber to a handspun yarn.  Everyone is welcome to participate.  A spinning wheel is needed for this workshop.  Call with questions.  RESERVATIONS REQUIRED

Come experience all the alpaca business has to offer.  This full day of alpaca emersion is sure leave you addicted.  The day is hosted by The Shepherd’s Oak in Albany Indiana and led by nationally respected AOBA certified alpaca judge, Shannon McConnell.  We will spend time in studio discussing the history and future of the alpaca industry.  We will discuss farm set up, tax issues, business plans, marketing and plenty of animal management/health care issues.  Hands on time will begin with that heavenly alpaca fiber.  Evaluation of end product, fiber, is the key to the success of all alpaca businesses.  Spending time with the alpacas is the favorite activity of the day.  There is not better teacher than getting your hands in/on the issue.  Learn things to look for as you create and grow your own alpaca herd (suri and huacaya).  It will be a day well spent regardless if you are just curious about alpacas, ready to make the investment or are in your junior years with alpacas.  Join us for a great day all about alpacas.  There is no better way to spend a Saturday than out on the farm

Alpaca fiber is some of the most wonderful we have ever encountered.  This clinic will focus on understanding the why.  Learn to evaluate alpaca fiber on and off the alpaca.  Learn the where and what you can do with your fiber.  Are in interested in learning how to prepare your fleece for show, processing and sale?  Then this is the study for you.  We will study the AOBA judging process for alpaca fleece shows.  You will come away with a better understanding of how to present your fleece to get the best scores possible for your fleece.  Knowing how to prepare your fleece for show is very similar to preparing for fleece to sell to a fiber artist.  Come join in the fiber world and understand what all the fuzz is about.

Water gardening 101 - Our new COUNTRY ARTS series is proud to announce a super fun opportunity for the entire family.  Our old water garden and falls are moving down to the Studio/Gift Shoppe.  The 10 year old pond is due for an upgrade and expansion.  The fish and lilies are looking forward their new location.  Available of resources and gardening how to has come along way.  Come join in, help install the new garden and learn how you might enjoy a water garden on your piece of heaven.
